I really like the analogy of a shared gamespace! A game of pickup basketball is clearly still basketball even if the lines have worn away and the basket is just a ring; touch football and flag football are still in the same universe as full-contact football; soccer is still soccer even if you're kicking a ball of rags. I'll definitely have to remember that way of talking about it.
