quick bright things

Oh, now I'm thinking of another example of subtext that turned out to be text: it was a book I picked up mostly at random from a "NEW!" shelf at my library called The Watchmaker of Filigree Street. Got more and more flirtatious vibes between the male protagonist and the Watchmaker, but kept thinking I had to be imagining things, until finally... TEXT. Very interesting premise, that one. I'm not sure it totally satisfied me as a standalone work, but fascinating.
